Paola is the gateway between Malta's south-east and everything else: the Addolorata junction, Paola Hill and the Santa Luċija roundabout collect traffic from Fgura, Tarxien, Żabbar and the Three Cities and pour it towards Marsa. When Paola misbehaves, the whole south feels it.

Parking
Paola square area is regulated and busy on weekday mornings (market and offices); side streets towards Tarxien are unmarked and easier. For Hypogeum visits, the streets around De Paule square usually clear after 09:30.

Public transport alternatives
Paola is the south's bus hub — nearly every route between Valletta and the south-east (81–85, 88, 91–93 corridor) stops on the square, making it the easiest park-and-ride point for Three Cities trips.
