Naxxar links Malta's centre to the north coast: Triq il-Labour and the 21st September Avenue junction with Mosta carry the commuter flow, while Triq is-Salini drops to the Coast Road at Salina. School-run season turns the Naxxar–Mosta stretch into one of the island's slowest kilometres.

Parking
Naxxar centre has short regulated stretches near the square but side streets are unmarked and workable outside festa nights. For Palazzo Parisio visits, the streets behind the church are the usual spot.
Public transport alternatives
Routes 31/37/45 connect Naxxar to Valletta and the north; the 225 crosses to Sliema. The bus corridor is the same road cars queue on, so timetables slip badly during school-run hours.

Naxxar controls the ridge between central Malta and the northern coast: the 21st September Avenue through its centre is the direct line from Birkirkara and Mosta towards the Salina coast and the north. That makes the town centre a through-route by geography, with all the friction that implies — a historic core, a major church square, and commuter volume that belongs to other towns.
The signalised junction at the Naxxar end of the avenue is the metering point; queues here at 08:00 are structural, not incidental. The Salina road down to the coast is the reward — one of the faster, prettier descents on the island once the town is behind you.
Trade fairs, weddings and the palazzo effect
Naxxar's event venues — the historic trade fair grounds and a cluster of wedding palazzos with gardens — give the town an evening and weekend traffic life detached from the commute. A large wedding can fill the surrounding streets with parked cars by 18:30; a fair or exhibition adds afternoon arrivals through the centre for days at a stretch.
None of it is severe by Msida standards, but it is unpredictable, and the town's narrow core amplifies small obstructions. If the avenue looks unusually full outside commuter hours, an event is the usual answer, and the San Pawl tat-Tarġa side roads are the calm way around.
The school and seminary run
Naxxar's share of the Mosta–Naxxar school cluster loads the western approaches on term mornings, with the seminary and the surrounding schools drawing traffic from the whole northern half of the island. The pattern is the standard Maltese one — sharp 07:30–08:15, gentler 14:30 return — but the ridge geography concentrates it onto exactly the roads through-traffic wants.
Term-time strategy for through-drivers: the coast-side route via Salina and Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq bypasses the whole school system, and outside the summer beach season it is reliably the emptier line north.
Questions
School mornings 07:15–08:30 are the peak of the peak — the corridor serves several large schools. Outside term time it flows freely except for the 17:00–18:30 commute.
