Ħamrun sits on Malta's busiest through-route: almost everything moving between the south and Valletta, Msida or Birkirkara touches either St Joseph High Road (Triq il-Kbira San Ġużepp) or the Marsa–Ħamrun bypass. Both are dense, signalled urban roads that queue at the slightest disruption.
The live map shows current flow on the bypass, Blata l-Bajda junction and the Santa Venera tunnels approach — the three points where Ħamrun traffic actually decides your journey time. Weekday peaks run 07:00–09:00 towards Valletta/Msida and 16:30–19:00 outbound.
St Joseph High Road doubles as a shopping street, so expect double-parking slowdowns midday and on Saturday mornings, plus full closures during the San Gejtanu festa week in August.

Parking
On-street parking in Ħamrun is scarce and mostly resident-heavy; the Blata l-Bajda Park & Ride at the Valletta end is the practical option if you're heading to the capital — flat daily fee with shuttle.

Public transport alternatives
Nearly every southern and central bus route passes through Ħamrun towards Valletta, so buses are frequent but sit in the same bypass traffic. From Blata l-Bajda the Valletta terminus is one stop away.
