Msida Traffic

Malta · Live conditions, incidents and cameras

The 5th October Roundabout in Msida is widely considered Malta's busiest interchange. It connects Valletta, Sliema, St Julian's, Marsa and the southern towns — meaning almost any cross-island journey passes through here.

Live cameras show real-time conditions on Valley Road, the Roundabout itself, Marsa Junction and the Sa Maison approach. The 'MYC' camera covers the St Julian's/Marsa split and is one of the most useful indicators of island-wide flow.

If Msida is red on the map, expect 15–25 minute delays on any route crossing the centre of Malta. Friday evenings are the worst — many drivers combine commute with weekend shopping or beach traffic.

Frequently asked

Why is Msida so congested?

It's the geographic centre of the island — Valletta-bound, Sliema-bound, St Julian's-bound and Marsa-bound traffic all converge on the 5th October Roundabout.

How do I avoid Msida at rush hour?

There's no true alternative for east–west crossings. For Valletta you can sometimes use Pietà; for Sliema, the coast road via Gżira. Otherwise, time-shifting outside 07:30–09:00 and 17:00–19:00 is the only real fix.
