Mellieħa & Ċirkewwa Traffic
Malta · Live conditions, incidents and cameras
Mellieħa guards the road to the Gozo ferry: everything bound for Ċirkewwa climbs through Mellieħa village and drops past Mellieħa Bay to Marfa. In summer this single corridor carries beach traffic, ferry traffic and village traffic at once.
The live map shows flow through the village bypass, the Mellieħa Bay stretch and the ferry approach — check it (and the ferry queue) before committing, because once you're past Xemxija there is no alternative route.
Peak pain: summer Saturday/Sunday mornings northbound (beach + ferry), Sunday evenings southbound, and the entire Santa Marija week in August when Gozo-bound queues can reach back up the hill.

Parking
Mellieħa Bay has large but summer-saturated car parks — full by 10:00 on August weekends. The village has unmarked street parking; for the ferry, Ċirkewwa's car park fills on holiday weekends, so foot passengers should be dropped off early.
See our full Malta parking guide for prices, time limits and warden patterns.
Public transport alternatives
Routes 41/42/X1 run the Valletta–Ċirkewwa spine through Mellieħa; the X1 links the airport directly to the ferry. Buses share the single corridor, so ferry-day delays hit them equally.

Frequently asked
Off-peak you drive straight on; summer weekends and Santa Marija week can mean 1–3 sailings' wait (45–90+ minutes). The live map shows queue tailback on Triq il-Marfa — if it's red back to Mellieħa Bay, expect a long wait.
Summer weekends 09:30–12:00 northbound and 16:00–19:00 southbound. The bay stretch also slows around the water park and beach car parks in August.
The Marija Bambina festa (8 September) closes the village core on feast evenings; through-traffic to Ċirkewwa uses the bypass, which stays open but runs heavy.
